In the performing arts category, Rymon Zacherei (dancer), known as Rayboom, is being honored. The jury explained their decision to award the dancer the prize as follows: “Rymon Zacherei – known internationally by his stage name Rayboom – is an exceptional artistic personality in many respects. He embodies his individual creative vision. The fact that he also integrates elements of martial arts and contemporary dance establishes a unique artistic position on both the national and international scene.”
Rayboom is one of the most influential artists in the current hip-hop scene, whose unique style has earned him a high reputation not only in Düsseldorf but now worldwide. Born in Baghdad in 1985, he has lived in Düsseldorf for many years, where he earned his university entrance qualification and completed vocational training as a gymnastics instructor. Since 2010, he has worked as a dance teacher and choreographer at tanzhaus nrw and has participated in projects throughout Germany. He is particularly dedicated to pedagogical work and encourages young people to experiment and develop their own body language. He also combines his artistic work with social engagement, for example, by participating in „Funky Wisdom,“ a project for refugees that uses rap and hip-hop to teach language.
