Wo Licht ist, ist auch Schatten
In my solo dance piece entitled „Where there is light, there is also shadow,“ I explore the interplay and complex relationships between mutually dependent opposites.
The title of the piece is not only an allusion to Goethe’s famous words, „Where there is much light, there is strong shadow,“ but also an invitation to reflect on the contrasts that permeate our lives—especially the interplay between light and shadow, addiction and liberation, or letting go. In my choreography, I process these opposites as fundamental elements of human experience, present not only in dance but also in everyday life.
Developing these interrelationships is an exciting challenge for me as a performer. It requires a special capacity for perception and expression, as I must empathize with and embody the characters, objects, and forces. The dance is not merely a physical movement, but a deep immersion into emotional states, into the inner turmoil that addiction and the need for liberation bring with them. It is about feeling what it means to live with these inner contradictions, to accept them, and to illustrate them on stage.
